HTC to Launch Entry Level Android ICS Phone

By -

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is becoming more and more popular now: The latest version of Google’s famous OS was first released in the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but now you can find it not only in a number of other high-end phones, but in a new entry-level phone made by HTC as well.

I’m speaking about the HTC Golf that was announced by the Taiwanese company recently – it will come with Android 4.0 out of the box. The Golf is just a code name, of course, so don’t worry, the phone won’t have such a strange title when it’s released. As for the specs the phone is going to be armed with, HTC has mentioned a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, a single-core processor clocked at 1GHz or less, 512MB of RAM and a 3MP camera. They say the phone will come with 4BG of built-in memory, but the owners will be able to expand it via the microSD card slot (most likely supporting cards up to 32GB).

So what kind of people is the so-called HTC Golf targeted at? After all, it comes with rather weak features, so it can’t compete with the other ICS phones made by HTC (with the HTC One X being the coolest one among them). But this phone will definitely find its buyers among first time smartphone users and all those who can’t afford paying more for expensive high-end phones.

Besides, the smartphone market has many other mid-range devices that are still very popular even despite their weak specs. Remember the Samsung Galaxy Ace – it’s still a best seller, and Samsung is even releasing some successors to this phone being completely sure they’ll also sell well. The features of the HTC Golf are even more powerful than the features of the Samsung Galaxy Ace, so together with Android 4.0 ICS it has all the chances to become a rather popular phone.

As for the release date of the HTC Golf, no specific date is known for now, but HTC says it will come in the second quarter of 2012, which is rather soon.
