The Japan based electronic giant Toshiba has announced new additions to its business laptop line-up for 2010.
The new models include the Tecra corporate models, the mainstream Satellite Pro S500, and a new version of the Satellite U500-1EX with a multi-touch display.
The new Tecra A11, which has already been included in the market, and the Tecra M11, coming out in April, “are designed for security, manageability and longevity”, Toshiba said. “The ultra-portable U500-1EX model features a
13.3in touch screen with a 1,280 x 800 resolution, which makes it very suitable for road warriors and the education market”.
It differentiates itself from Atom-based netbooks, being powered by an Intel Core i3-330 processor, while Microsoft Touch Pack along with Windows 7 Home Premium edition enables the interactive element.
The laptop, which is priced at £649, weighs in at a 2.15Kg.
Looking to the rest of 2010, Toshiba expects to see modest growth in laptop sales of about one per cent compared with last year.
The netbooks are “here to stay”, believes Chan, “as this segment of the market has now settled on a 10in screen format that offers an “acceptable size” to users”.
However, he also said that 15 inch laptops are still going to be the dominant format.
