Have you heard the hottest report released about mobile apps the recent June?  The report says that consumers spend more time on using mobile apps than on using web and I admit for not imagining a day like this would happen, that too at the very soon. While our eyes are on the people who are just switching on to web, the time has come too early where mobile apps have overtaken the web usage. It was once the mobile phones, then the internet, then the smart phones, then the smartphone web and now the smartphone apps.

The Evolution

ñ  It all started with the release of iPhone in early 2007. With the phone reaching demands higher than the sky, it had become widely competitive among developers to come up with efficient and high quality apps that needs to stand unique on an iPhone. While the iPhone itself had some in-built apps for text, weather and maps, people wanted something new, which aroused the evolution of the industry, ‘iPhone App Development’ or ‘Mobile App Development’. After that, apps were released for everything that is from entertainment to business. Right from video games to photo sharing, consumers have never been away from downloading any app that is available on the iPhone and Android market.

ñ  After Apple had opened its app store in July 2008, it came the time when most of the developers were starting their own mobile application development company, which they are still running successfully. They were on their foots building apps for Apple iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia, Samsung and Windows, which all started to mark their fames from then. It was then HTC’s turn to launch the first commercial Android smartphone in 2008.

ñ  It was witnessed in 2009 that Apple’s iPhone apps have served more than 1 billion downloads, while Android was a bit late to achieve the same in 2010. Apple’s first iPad was launched in April 2010 and Samsung’s first tablet computer was launched at September 2010. The total Apple app store downloads  exceeded 10 billion at 2010. Apple’s iPhone 4S was launched in October 2010.

ñ  As per 2011 statistics, the number of mobile apps developed on the market so far reached 1 million. By the time, the Android market app downloads had hit 10 billion. It was Apple iPad’s birth at 2012. Apple app store downloads, by this time have reached 25 billion, which something unbelievable to have happens within a period of 3 years.

ñ  As of June, customers have downloaded 30 billion apps from the Apple App store. It has been reported that Apple app store enfolds more than 650, 000 apps, and Android to have more than 500, 000 apps till date. On an average, people spend 81 minutes per day using mobile apps, while the web usage is comparatively lower with 74 minutes. 47% of the total mobile app usage is taken by game applications and 32% is won by social media apps.

ñ  Drawsomething and Instagram were the two apps released this year to receive 50 million downloads within six months form its launch. Angrybirds is again a well noted app to have reached an exceeding 1 billion downloads until now. Microsoft released the new Windows 8, the early this year to bring SmartPhone styled apps to PCs.

  1. Hmm it seems like your website ate my first comment (it was
extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your
blog. I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any helpful hints for first-time blog writers? I’d genuinely appreciate it.
